I'm Always Glad to Answer Your Questions
Some of the people I meet and who, many times, become my clients, start out with no idea of what coaching or Reiki are. And even after they become my clients they are still full of surprising and thoughtful questions. I love the challenge of answering them in the best way I can. And I love feeling helpful, so here are some of the questions I get most often. If you have more, I'd be glad to answer them in email or a chat!

What is life coaching?Life coaching is a process where a coach supports a client to make a change, learn something new or achieve goals. This process happens through conversation, and can take place face-to-face, over the phone, or online. The ultimate aim is to help the client make progress in a certain area of their life, thier work or to overcome a problem they’re struggling with.
-
What is a life coach?A life coach is a trained professional who aims to help and guide clients to set, meet and exceed personal and professional goals. They support clients on a journey to rediscover their own strengths: this can include excelling in the workplace, becoming happy and fulfilled at home, exploring one's potential, managing health conditions and achieving life ambitions. By harnessing techniques based on core psychological principles and intuition, coaches empower clients and provide a toolkit of teachings for them to confidently face challenges and overcome barriers.

What are the benefits of life coaching for an individual?Working with a life coach and dedicating time and space to personal development, regardless of your aims, helps improve confidence and a sense of self-worth. If you’re feeling lost or unsure about something, coaching can provide clarity, direction and focus. If you’re struggling to make a change, coaching can help raise your self-awareness and both understand and change certain behaviours. If you’re finding it difficult to motivate yourself and make things happen in your life or work, coaching can offer accountability and help you define your purpose. And finally if you simply need to learn a new skill (from sports to building emotional resilience) coaching can help accelerate your learning. Coaching relies on the client's commitment to the process and an open, honest relationship with the coach. With a focus of forward progression, unlocking potential and achieving goals, it’s no surprise that many people call coaching ‘life changing’.
-
What sorts of people have a life coach? In my experience every type of individual will come to me for coaching. The only traits all my clients have in common is the desire to change part of their life so they are happier, and the realisation that they will stay focussed and get there quicker with the support of a coach.

What happens during a life coaching session?Coaching sessions will typically last between 45 minutes and 90 (depending on the coach you choose). After an initial assessment, sessions can be conducted face-to-face or remotely (via video calls). Although a coach will work with you, it’s often up to you to challenge or reflect upon certain ideas you have, to help you move forward with your life. You will never be forced to make any decisions you don't feel comfortable with and all sessions will be confidential, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings privately in a safe space. Coaching is often seen as a partnership. A coach won’t tell you what to do, instead, they will use questioning techniques to help you uncover the answers yourself. They'll also provide an objective and empowering environment for you to explore any challenges you're facing. At the heart of it all lies the idea that clients must be given the power to help themselves.
-
What about confidentiality? What happens in our coaching session stays in our session. I fully understand the value of your trust, and I take every precaution to safeguard it.
-
How many coaching sessions will I need? You can have as many or as few coaching sessions as you like. Because many coaches now work online, the sessions can easily fit around your schedule. After a pre-coaching free session in which we go together through a variety of questions, I usually come back to my clients with a suggested program and an estimated number of sessions needed.
-
How often do I need to meet with my coach?I usually meet my clients once a week. Through years of experience and testing of different time frames, I've found that this frequency yields the greatest returns in terms of change. Meeting once a week offers the client sufficients time for reflection and application of learning between sessions, while maintaining the momentum of our work together.
-
Where do I meet my coach? In order to make coaching as convenient as possible for you, I offer several options. Coaching sessions can be conducted in person at your home, on-site for corporate engagements, or online, on a variety of social media platforms (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Google Meet, Skype, Zoom, etc.) for remote clients and busy executives.

What are the benefits of coaching for organisations? For organisations, coaching is a long-term investment in higher business performance. It is the most cost-effective way of getting higher performance from teams. Coaching is evidence of the company’s commitment to developing its people and contributes to a supportive organisational culture. Coaching retains key employees and avoids the cost of retraining, the loss of company knowledge to competitors and the drop in productivity when people leave.

What is Reiki?Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It involves light (or no) touch. Using gentle hand movements, Reiki practitioners guide energy within a person’s body to encourage self-healing. Reiki is based on the idea that everything is energy (including us). If our energy is low, we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Reiki treats the whole person - body, emotions, mind and spirit - creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method that everyone can use. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
-
Is Reiki a religious practice? While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to benefit from Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Due to its spiritual nature, however, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their spirituality rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.
-
How does Reiki work?We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body as well as around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body. The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body. Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

What happens during a Reiki session? In a standard Reiki session, energy flows from the practitioners hands into the client. The client is usually laying on a bed or massage table, seated or even standing, and remains fully clothed. The practitioner places her/his hands on or near the clients body in a series of hand positions. Each position is held for three to ten minutes, depending on how much Reiki the client needs. The whole session usually lasts between 30 and 90 minutes.
-
Does one have to stop seeing a regular doctor or psychologist in order to receive Reiki?Absolutely not. Reiki works in conjunction with regular medical or psychological treatment. If one has a medical or psychological condition, it is recommended that one see a licensed health care professional in addition to participating in Reiki sessions. Reiki energy works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs, surgery, psychological care or any other method of alternative care and will improve the results.
-
Are there any side effects from Reiki? Most of the time people will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki session. Sometimes, as the body adjusts itself to the energy shift, people might experience a mild natural detoxification. As a person’s vibration goes up, toxins that have been stored in the body will be released and removed from the system. When this spiritual detox happens, a person may get a mild headache or stomach ache or feel weak. If this happens, is a very good sign that the body is cleansing as part of the healing process. It is also a sign Reiki has begun its work but more sessions might be needed. Drinking extra water and/or herbal tea, rest and some simple stretching exercises will help you feel grounded. In most cases, these effects only last between several minutes and a day or two.
-
Are there any scientific experiments that demonstrate Reiki works? There are many studies being carried out around the world about the efficacy of Reiki. You can find a selection of them in the downloadable section of my website called Reiki Studies.
-
Is Reiki right for me?As Reiki is gentle and noninvasive, it’s really safe for everyone. People most commonly seek Reiki to help them prepare for or recover from surgery, manage stress and anxiety, cope with the loss of a loved one, or as an adjunct to professional medical care. Some people seek Reiki for supportive touch when they feel alone in dealing with troubling situations. Reiki may boost the effectiveness of other medical treatments by reducing stress, which can be a roadblock. However, Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatment. Please always contact a doctor for professional help for any medical or mental health issues. Once you’ve gotten help from a professional, Reiki may be added as a form of complementary care.
-
What should I wear to a Reiki session?Wear comfortable clothes that you can relax in. We recommend dressing in layers so you can add or remove clothing during the session, if needed. Finally, make sure you remove belts and other bulky items before the session starts.
